Virtual Instruction

The Waxahachie Virtual Instruction Program is a full-time online learning option for students in grades 9–12. The program provides students with the flexibility of virtual learning while maintaining access to the academic excellence, support services, and educational opportunities offered by Waxahachie ISD.

The Virtual Instruction Program is available to students in grades 9–12 who reside within Waxahachie ISD attendance boundaries or who qualify under approved transfer guidelines.

No. Students enrolled in the Waxahachie Virtual Instruction Program remain enrolled in their designated Waxahachie ISD high school for academic records, transcripts, graduation, and state accountability purposes.

Students will complete coursework through the district's approved online learning platform and receive support from certified online educators. Courses will be aligned to Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and meet all state graduation requirements.

Families should first complete the Declaration of Interest form and the VIP application. Interested students will then complete the district enrollment process and any required application steps. Acceptance is based on eligibility requirements and available program capacity.

New students to Waxahachie ISD may be considered for enrollment at the beginning of a semester. Current students are expected to enroll at the beginning of the school year. Requests for mid-year placement due to significant life circumstances will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Students may request a change in learning environment; however, changes are typically limited to semester or school-year transition points. Students will not be permitted to move back and forth between virtual and traditional learning throughout the year, except in exceptional circumstances approved by the district.

At this time, students enrolled in the full-time Virtual Instruction Program are not eligible to participate in UIL athletics, fine arts competitions, or school-sponsored extracurricular activities that require daily campus enrollment.
Students may attend approved school-sponsored events as spectators in accordance with district guidelines.

Yes. Students may be required to attend campus for state assessments, End-of-Course (EOC) exams, college-readiness testing, counseling appointments, or other required district activities. Families will receive advance notice whenever in-person attendance is required.

Yes. Students transitioning from homeschool, private school, or other educational settings may apply for enrollment. Placement decisions will be based on district enrollment procedures, transcript reviews, and any additional readiness assessments deemed necessary.

Yes. Virtual Instruction Program students will have access to counseling, academic advising, graduation planning, and other student support services provided by Waxahachie ISD.

Students enrolled in the Virtual Instruction Program are subject to all applicable provisions of the Waxahachie ISD Student Code of Conduct. Expectations for academic integrity, appropriate online behavior, attendance, and communication apply in the virtual environment.

Yes. Students will be issued a Waxahachie ISD student identification badge, which may be required for testing, campus visits, and attendance at school-sponsored events.

Yes. Students who successfully complete all graduation requirements will be eligible to participate in commencement ceremonies with their designated high school campus.

Families will receive district and campus communications through the district's approved communication platforms and will continue to receive important announcements regarding academic progress, testing, and school events.

Yes. Virtual Instruction Program students are held to the same academic standards, grading policies, graduation requirements, and state accountability expectations as students attending classes on campus.

Attendance is measured through active participation, instructional progress, assignment completion, assessments, and other requirements established by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and Waxahachie ISD.

Yes. Students must participate in all required state assessments and district testing programs. Some assessments will require students to report to campus in person.

Teachers and support staff will monitor student progress and provide interventions, tutoring, office hours, and academic support as needed. If a student is not demonstrating success in the virtual environment, the district may recommend a return to a traditional campus setting.

Students may pursue early graduation in accordance with Waxahachie ISD policy and guidelines. Families interested in this option should work closely with their counselor to develop an approved graduation plan and application to High School of Choice.

Yes. Virtual Instruction Program students may attend approved school-sponsored events as spectators and must comply with all district expectations and event guidelines.

Yes. All students enrolled in Waxahachie ISD, including Virtual Instruction Program students, are expected to follow the Student Code of Conduct and all district policies and procedures.

Yes. In-district students will be issued a device through their home campus, as we are a 1-to-1 district.
